The Christmas party season is definitely coming for all of us in the entertainment and events world. September is always busy as everyone returns from their summer holidays and starts to think about booking their company Christmas party. There are lots of great packages on offer from many of the venues and events organisers in London but sometimes you just have to take things on yourself a bit if you want the ultimate London Christmas party that rocks!
So here are 5 tips from us at Yes Entertainment that can achieve a good impact at your party without costing a huge amount.
1. Pick a theme
This is always our first step with any event as picking a theme can guide everything else you do from venue to menu, tunes to balloons! It doesn’t have to be complicated necessarily or expensive. The theme could simply be a few adjectives that describe the vibe you want to create for your event. Dark, warm, buzz. Twinkling, cheerful.
But of course don’t let us stop you if you want to go with Pirates of the Christmas Caribbean and hire some live firing canon, or Christmas with the Romans with a full chariot race finale! Christmas parties in London can be this big if you have the budget…
Whether light and descriptive or all encompassing, pick a theme then everything else becomes easier.
2. Lighting, lighting, lighting and less lighting!!!
The lighting at a Christmas party is hugely important and getting it right is one of the ingredients in a great party. Your venue should be able to help you with this but often in our experience there is too much light in some of the venues. If you position mood lighting well you can have a lower lit environment but still have enough lighting to satisfy the health and safety bods. Speak to your DJ, or venue about mood lighting for the room as they will have experience of organising this.
3. Music and sound effects
Obviously having a great band, or DJ for your party who know how to read the room and work a crowd to ensure everyone is dancing is essential.! Don’t worry you can talk to us about that.
But also don’t neglect background music when guests arrive. A real impact can be made at the door with some appropriate music to fit your theme (just walk past any of London’s top attractions, or go to a theme park to see what we mean). Also you can add sound effects to really transport people on the journey as they enter the room. There will almost certainly be someone in your organisation with some sound recording equipment and a bit of creativity. If there isn’t just speak to your event organiser, venue, or us and we can arrange something appropriate.
4. Face painting
Face painting to tie in with your theme can work really well as a way to get guests out of their normal selves and into the spirit of the elves. Face painters don’t cost a huge amount and provide entertainment for the evening as well as adding to the atmosphere via the guests themselves. If you are low on budget but good with a brush why not buy a kit yourself and paint your colleagues! You could even charge them a couple of quid on the night and raise a little bit for your favourite charity on the way.
5. Props for guests
Finally props for guests we think work really well. Its nice to have props round the room to tie in with your theme in some way if you have the budget. But if you don’t a few pounds spent online can get you some basic props for guests that once again can help to transform them from their normal selves to the party people that you want and need to make your Christmas party a huge success!
