winter wedding entertainment ideas

A winter wedding can be a truly magical event.

The dark evenings give you lots of options for candlelight early on. Darker colours, more gothic venues and so on. Lots of options. But of course depending on when your wedding actually is it might be genuinely cold (hard to think about even in our glorious British summer time). So here at Yes Entertainment we’ve come up with a few ideas for winter wedding entertainment that will help to warm your guests, or at least give them the illusion of warmth…

1. Fire performers – OK so its a pretty obvious choice as a winter wedding entertainment warmer but actually a winter wedding is a perfect opportunity to have some meet and greet performances with real fire.

It is very likely that there will be some element of moving people from one place to another (church to reception venue, car park to inside etc.) and if its cold the welcome site of some clever fire play outside the entrance to your reception venue will warm your guests deep within their frozen subconscious minds.

But even if they don’t fire acts are seriously cool. Er in a kind of hot kind of way.

2. The warm tones of the double bass – Winter weddings by their nature tend to be more intimate affairs, and a traditional jazz or swing band, particularly with the warming tones of a double bass and the hot air blowing out from a trumpet or trombone can give you a really different feel to the more common function band. A lot of traditional jazz bands will also play contemporary songs in a jazz and swing style too so there will be something for everyone.

Seriously next time you feel a bit chilly just go and cuddle a double bass (or double bass player) and you’ll see what we mean.

3. Sizzling magic tricks – whilst magic has a well earned place in our hearts and minds all year round it is in the dark winter evenings that the concepts of magic can really penetrate our senses. Picture a well groomed magician in a dark jacket with groups of your guests huddling round as he or she warms them with mind frying tricks.

Without a doubt magicians are the best ice breakers at parties and in the winter when you need your guests to get close to each other for additional warmth then there is nothing better than a close hand magician.

So just a few ideas that we think work well for winter weddings. Some of the acts we work with are profiled on our site so have a look around and send us an enquiry list of any performers you like the look of.

Of course there is a lot to think about when you are booking entertainers, especially multiple entertainers for the day. So if you need ideas or support just get in touch and let us know about your special winter wedding and we will be happy to help fan the flames of entertainment for you and run the performers on the day if required.
