Organising a company Christmas party is always a bit stressful but it’s even harder to organise a small company Christmas party. Trying to please everybody is next to impossible and keeping things fresh and interesting is difficult.
In some ways organising a smaller Christmas party is harder because hiring a DJ for 30 people for example is only really going to work if you’ve got a company full of dance fanatics who are going to make the party happen even if there are only 5 of them left standing!
So here are a few ideas from the Yes Entertainment ranch to set you thinking (and believe us it is not to early to start thinking about it now…)
1. Add some Karaoke to your Christmas party DJ
Keeping the dance floor full for the night when you are starting with a crowd of just 30 is a challenge for any DJ. It just takes half the group to go for a cigarette, a third to go to the loo and then you’re going to have to work hard to keep the vibe going.
So a great option for a group this size is to add Karaoke to the mix. A lot of professional mobile DJs will come with Karaoke screens, backing tracks & mics for a small additional fee and before you know it you have the whole crowd singing and dancing for most of the night. Job done.
2. Book in to a shared Christmas Party
There are lots of venues and companies offering great shared Christmas party packages where you can book a table, or tables and share the room with other companies. In particular West End Events offer a wide range of options so there is something for everybody. Many of the central London hotels also offer great packages for shared Christmas parties too including The Tower Hotel near tower bridge, Thistle Marble Arch, Amba Hotel Charing Cross and many more. Most of these parties will include entertainment in the form of either a DJ, a band, a murder mystery or casino tables. Chances are you’ll make some new friends too!
3. Hire your own Christmas entertainer
The good thing about organising a small company Christmas party is that if you hire a performer you are all going to get to see something.
We love magicians at Yes Entertainment because they are just great. With a group of around 30 your magician would perform a show for all of you at once, usually before your meal starts, or over drinks. The show would involve lots of audience participation guaranteed to astound, amaze and ensure you have a great start to your night.
Alternatively hire a balloon modeller to pump up the fun. Its pretty hard to not have a good time when you are wearing a Rudolf the red nose reindeer balloon hat!
Professional caricaturists are great too and with a smaller Christmas party group they can ensure that they have drawn everyone and leave you with something to take home.
Silhouette cutters are another more unusual roving performance artist. You’ll be amazed at how deftly they can creating an incredibly lifelike profile of your face with just scissors and card! Again with a smaller group, everyone will get their own silhouette to take home with them.
Finally you could go for a circus skills performer. In the small group scenario your artist can give you a short show followed by a bit of training to get the more game amongst you up to have a try yourselves. A really fun option but we’d probably suggest to not include fire breathing for this one!
4. Hire your own casino table
Not everyone is a gambler but most people like a flutter when there is only fun money involved. Hiring a casino table or tables with a professional croupier doesn’t cost that much and can even be situated at your offices as an alternative to going out for your office Christmas party. The croupiers are great at getting the banter going round the table so you’ll have a fantastic time whether there are 10 of you or more.
5. Do something together
Its always good to have an activity when you are looking at a Christmas party for a smaller group. Not only does it help to keep the drinking to a manageable level but it also can be a very good bonding exercise. Whether its, bowling, laser tag or your own murder mystery. Having something to focus on together or in teams can help to ensure that everyone is involved.
